The toys featured in this book are the finest held in the collection of Teruhisa Kitahara which is now housed at Yokohama's Tin Toy Museum, of which Kitahara is the curator. The toys include a steam locomotive from the 1800s to a battery-operated robot of the 1950s.
"I approached this book with no prior knowledge of the hobby, nor of the sorts of toys on show, but found this to be a very valuable visual reference for a personal project. There's a strong leaning towards many classic robots that hit Japan in the 1950s and 1960s, but there is still much joy to be found in the planes, boats, spaceships and cars featured here. The real gems lie in one-off entries to the collection, such as a 1950s Air Control Station remote that looks like a lost prop from Thunderbirds or Joe 90.
Generally speaking, this book presents a very neat collection of well thought-out photographs. It should inform the reader of a wider scope to the tinplate collecting hobby than they maybe expected, and will undoubtedly raise a smile even on return visits. It does a fine job of letting the toys do the talking for themselves, with just enough information on each piece to make this informative too."
