A crease across each sheet. A few small creases. A beautiful hand colored map of Sala and its environs, a town in the district of Västmanland in mid Sweden. The map has an inset showing the centre of town and 17 insets of outlying areas. It has tables showing the distribution of farm- and wood lands, population etc. The map of Sala is much larger tha all the other maps in Ljunggrens town-atlas, and the only one that comes in two sheets. The map was approved by the city council of Sala in 1854, and then published in "Atlas öfver Sveriges Städer" (Atlas of swedish towns) in 1862, containing 89 maps alltogether. The map was also sold separetly. Gustaf Ljunggren started to work on the maps to the atlas in the early 1850s. In 1855 the publishing house Bonniers bought the rights and continued the work under Ljunggrens superintendence. The same year some of the maps were awarded at the World Exposition in Paris. The government supported the project by guaranteeing a purchase of 1.300 copies of each map. All the maps were colored by "Koloröser", women cololorists, in a wonderful mild tone.
