Atlas of Classical Archaeology

Atlas of Classical Archaeology

Inbunden bok. McGraw-Hill Book Company. 1977. 256 sidor.

Mycket gott skick. Skyddsomslag i hyggligt skick. Here is a book that can truly be said to be indispensable for anyone interested in archaeology or our ancient history. THE ATLAS OF CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY covers the first millenium BC to the end of the Roman Empire, and it ranges geographically from the newly excavated Vindolanda, near Hadrinans Wall in Northumberland, to Ai Khanum on the borders of Afghanistan and Russia. Priority is given to those places in which modern archaeology has brought to light interesting and significant remains.
The Atlas is divided into thirteen culturalcum-geographical sections, each of which has been planned and written by a well-known specialist on the area. Each section starts with an introductory map showing the distribution of the sites and a general survey putting the region into historical perspective. There follows a history of each site and a description of what can be seen there today. As well as the twocolor maps and plans of over 100 of the major classical sites, there are monochrome plates and drawings illustrating many of the buildings, important finds, and reconstructions of what could once be seen before falling into ruin.
