Monet Water lilies

Monet Water lilies

Könemann 1988. Inbunden med skyddsomslag, 132 sidor, liggande format med utvikbara sidor, 420x305 mm. 1670 gram.

Mycket gott skick. Engelsk text.
This very handsome book shows the various forms the theme of water lilies took in the art of Claude Monet. The illustrations are preceded by a short, useful introduction that examines the meaning of this theme, the history of the paintings' production, and the story behind some of the collections for which the paintings were intended. Included are a useful chronology of the artist's life and a wonderful series of photographs of the artist in his studio and at work on these canvases. Yet the reproductions of the paintings themselves form the core of the volume, and they are sumptuous. The volume itself is oversize and includes numerous fold-out pages, giving a sense of the paintings' size and rendering them to scale. The effect is overwhelming. A beautifully produced volume that will appeal to the specialist as well as the informed reader.

Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
There are so many books in publication about Monet's art.
I have never viewed a book on Monet with such verve. I have finally
found the THE BOOK on Monet's waterlillies for which he is so famous.
The viewer is almost taken to the museum to view these magic images.
Fold outs, double fold outs with waterlillies stretching across a panarama.
One is also invited to see the paintings in progress. As an artist
it was such a treat to see the innerworkings of Monet's artistic prolific
output. He never wavers in his depiction of the waterlillies. And what
astounded me was the detail and the ambiance of colors used together
that one would never think of using to create such beauty. These large
horizontal oils demand the viewer stand back and then move up close and
study what you cannot detect at a distance. He was before his time and
he ushered in the Impressionists. The perfect leader for this group
of painters. The book I purchased is horizontal and huge and at the
greatest price spoke 'round the world. It doesn't get much better
than this , folks. I have a whole new respect and love of this genius.
Even if you are not a Monet fan, this book is essential for an art book library.
