For over five decades Bishop K. H. Ting has influenced the development of the church in China. As the head of the China Christian Council (CCC) and the Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM), Bishop Ting persisted through several cataclysmic periods of development, first with missionaries in China being expelled, all churches closing during the Cultural Revolution, and churches reopening services and re-emerging ministry in the late 1970s. In all of this the TSPM has had as its goal to be a self-administering, self-supporting and self-propagating church. The Christians numbered less than a million people in 1950 but the Church has grown to more than 17 million in the registered church today. This collection of writings is a reflection of his thoughts and opinions in a changing political and spiritual environment that has existed over the past 57 years.
