An introduction to the philosophy of religion
Häftad bok. Englewood Cliffs, N. J. : Prentice-Hall. 1:e uppl. 1985. 256 sidor.
Nära nyskick. William J. Abraham's engaging and accessible Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion, is the best textbook on the market, suitable for class use in different contexts from an undergraduate introductory class to a doctoral seminar, as well as for self-education. The book covers such questions as the function of religious language, arguments for the existence of God, the role of religious experience, the place of divine revelation, and so on. The book offers a superb introduction to the work of Richard Swinburne, who build a cumulative case argument for Christian theism by showing how different traditional arguments for the existence of God, while they may not be deductively valid, are still quite probable and being considered together make a highly probably case for the existence of God. The book is also helpful in understanding different forms of theism -- here Abraham differentiates between the theological fideism of Karl Barth and the philosophical fideism of Alvin Plantinga -- and emphasizes the elements of fideism that are valuable for defending the reasonableness of Christianity. This book is lucidly written, based on decades of teaching experience, and provides very entertaining examples. Highly recommended!
