–– ABSOLUT NYSKICK, obet. hörnmärken på omslaget. – Se fler bilder! – This is a nice overview of arms and armor of the 11th to 17th centuries. It is highly illustrated with 130 photographs, many in full color. It is, however, much more than just a picture book as it details the evolution of armor over a 600 year period - from chain mail and a can-like helmet, to the fully articulated and highly decorated parade armor of the 17th century. While the discussion of weapons only occupies about ¼ of the book, it discusses swords, daggers, the mace, ax, halberd, and both the long bow and the cross bow. While somewhat academic in tone, the use of the book by a serious student of the subject of arms and armor is somewhat hampered by the lack of a bibliography or index.
The book is divided into 7 chapters covering the following:
Chapter 1. - Mail and its development.
Chapter 2. - Armour in the age of chivalry.
Chapter 3. - War and tournament in the early renaissance.
Chapter 4. - The finest achievement in armor design.
Chapter 5. - Armour becomes obsolete.
Chapter 6. - The sword and dagger.
Chapter 7. - Other weapons –– GLÖM INTE ATT TITTA PÅ ALLA MINA ANDRA BÖCKER!
