Rhythm with a pinch of something
CD album.
Mycket gott skick. CD, Prophone PCD 084 (2005 / 2005). "In a perfect world, jazz would have occupied a large area of society”™s media scene. Instrumentalists, as well as vocalists, could become ” celebrities” , and new, young jazz-talent would be seen and heard far and wide. There would be room for well- established, as well as new artists, touring the country and developing their music. Well, the world is not exactly perfect. Still, Sweden is swarming with high standard jazz- musicians and a new generation in their 20”™s is now emerging. How many of you have ever heard of Jean-Simon Maurin? No? Well, it is a name to remember. Here is a young man right in the middle of a fantastic development that may very well lead to unimaginable heights. Seriously and efficiently, during a period of two years, Jean-Simon has worked with his trio and with his own compositions in order to reach deeper and deeper into the core of expression. When Bill Evans got the question ” How did you develop into the extraordinary musician you are today?” he simply answered ” through years of hard work.” The trio that you are about to listen to is imbued with that same attitude. I have had the privilege of teaching Jean-Simon. First, when he, as a young teenager, looked me up when I had just recently graduated from the Malmö Conservatory of Music. Later, when he, then himself a student at the IE-jazz department (also at Malmö Conservatory of Music), again contacted me. Here is a pianist who has something to say and who urges you to listen. Mere attitude means nothing, the smoke screen is withdrawn, there is nothing to prove. This is Jean-Simon Maurin." (Jan Lundgren, jazz pianist and composer).
