Gardner Williams (1842-1922) was an American mining engineer, the first one to be appointed in South Africa. Cecil Rhodes got him to the challenge to consolidate all the diamond mines under De Beers. He did it successfully. The Royal Academy of Sweden awarded him its silver medal in 1905.
