They are cheaper to build than tanks, easier to maintain, but lack the mobility, firepower and protection of a tank. The debate over which to use has been ongoing from WW2 to the present. This book, published in 1988 only reviews up through the Vietnam War.
This book covers the development of the M-8 (37mm 6x6), M-20 (turretless M-8). It also has includes the T 37 Staghound (37mm 4x4), 5 pages of experimental heavy Armored Cars that did not see service and finally, the V-100 Commando which saw service in the 1960's.
The In Action Series books are 48 pages long, some text, most of the information comes from the captions of the photos, 2 pages of line color drawings to show the camouflage colors used. A special bonus in this book - interior photos of the V-100, a restored M-20 and the authors' description of the automotive performance of that vehicle. The photos are crisp, clear and really show the variety of terrain and weather in which they fought.
